THE DECORATION OF a newly constructed New Orleans apartment by architectural designer Michael Carbine. The apartment features dramatic views over the lush live oak trees lining St Charles Avenue, and its design palette was inspired by the verdant and romantic surroundings. An eclectic mi x o f antique furniture is contrasted with occasional contemporary elements, as well as contemporary paintings by local artists, giving the rooms a lofty bright feel that still fits within the traditional and gracious Garden District sensibility. Architectural embellishments such as cast plaster medallions and cornices, faux painted mahogany doors, and carved stone mantles further enrich the spaces.
